Microsoft Unveils USD7.9B Investment Plans in UAE

(MENAFN) Microsoft unveiled plans Monday to pour $7.9 billion into the United Arab Emirates between 2026 and 2029, focusing heavily on artificial intelligence and cloud computing infrastructure development.

The software behemoth disclosed that its Middle Eastern commitment forms part of a broader AI initiative established in 2023 with backing from both US and UAE government officials. The expanded partnership will channel $15.2 billion into the Gulf nation over seven years, Microsoft announced online.

"This includes our $1.5 billion equity investment in G42, more than $4.6 billion in capital expenses in advanced AI and cloud datacenters in the country, and more than $1.2 billion in local operating expenses and the cost of goods sold," it said.

The technology corporation specified that its $7.9 billion expenditure spanning early 2026 through late 2029 represents a significant acceleration of regional operations.

"This includes more than $5.5 billion in capital expenses for ongoing and planned expansion of our AI and cloud infrastructure, including new steps we will share publicly in Abu Dhabi this week. It also includes almost $2.4 billion in planned local operating expenses and the cost of goods sold," Microsoft said.

In a parallel development, Microsoft confirmed Monday it has secured export authorization to deliver Nvidia chips to the UAE—marking a major policy shift.

The company revealed that Commerce Department licenses, approved in September, came with "updated and stringent technology safeguards" attached. Microsoft has become the first corporation to receive such permits under US President Donald Trump's administration.

The authorization enables Nvidia to ship an additional 60,400 A100 processors to the region, including the cutting-edge GB300 GPUs from the chip manufacturer.
