Putin, UAE leader talk about Iran-Israel war
The discussion comes in the wake of Israel’s recent large-scale airstrikes on Iran, which it claims is close to developing a nuclear weapon. Iran has denied these allegations and responded with waves of drone and missile attacks.
During the call, Putin reiterated Russia’s readiness to act as a mediator and help promote dialogue between the conflicting parties. Both leaders voiced serious concern about the deepening crisis, warning that it could have severe consequences for the entire region.
They emphasized the urgent need to halt hostilities and prioritize political and diplomatic solutions, particularly concerning Iran’s nuclear program.
In addition to the regional situation, the two presidents reviewed bilateral relations, highlighting strong cooperation between Russia and the UAE in areas such as politics, trade, economics, and humanitarian initiatives. They agreed to maintain ongoing communication.
The conversation took place as global leaders react to the conflict’s escalation. US President Donald Trump called on Tehran residents to evacuate and echoed Israeli threats against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Putin has also held separate talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump later spoke with Putin as well, expressing openness to Russia taking on a mediating role in the crisis.
